Sohané first joined AdminAssist in 2017. Sohané has served an incredibly diverse set of clients ranging from consulting firms, clinical research specialists, copywriters and has attended various board meetings as a minute-take. She also supports the directors at AdminAssist with a wide range of tasks including taxes, blog writing and research.
Sohané was born in Pretoria and grew up in the leafy suburb of Waverley. She got married to her high school sweetheart in April 2018 and has since been residing in Centurion. “We are not ready for pets yet – but there is a Scottish Terrier somewhere in my future!”, says Sohané.
It was great fun getting to know more about Sohané – we know you will enjoy it too, let’s get to it then!
Tell us a little more about yourself.
I love fashion! I am absolutely fascinated by it and my dream job is working for Vogue or some or other luxury fashion brands – whoever will take me! For a few years now I’ve been very interested in style stories and fashion editorials, always trying to figure out what the fashion editor or designer is trying to communicate with the theme or garments.
What lead you to become a VA at AdminAssist?
I completed my Honours ( BCom Communication Management) in 2016. I am fascinated by business, but I’ve always known that I don’t want to settle for a rigid routine job confined to a desk. However, I knew I had to get my foot in the door and start climbing the corporate ladder somewhere to gain practical experience. I struggled to find work at PR Agencies and Communication Consultants, or for that matter work in general.
Somehow my CV found its way to AdminAssist and I decided to give this Virtual-Assistant-thing a try. Little did I know that it was practically the perfect job! It allowed me the flexibility and the opportunity to do many things at once. As a VA I took on different projects seated with a variety of clients and it allowed me to develop multiple skills in a short amount of time.
If anything, working as a VA, strengthened my speculation that the career space as we know it is changing and that there has to be another way to earn a living and be successful without having to trade in flexibility and passion.
Due to personal and professional pressure, I made the move to permanent employment in 2017/2018 and basically resented every moment of it! Since April 2019, I’ve been back at AdminAssist and I love being a part of a group of dynamic, driven women who are entrepreneurial and disrupting the industry in South Africa.
What would you say is your strength/s?
I can juggle multiple balls at a time, figuratively speaking. I am good at keeping tabs on what I am busy with and managing different timelines and deadlines all at once. I am also a very patient person which can turn out to be both a pro and a con depending on the situation.
If you could steal credit for any great piece of art, song, film, book, etc which one would you claim?
I am an avid bookworm! I would definitely steal credit for a book; more particularly Amor Towles’ beautifully written novel called “A Gentleman in Moscow”. I view it as a literary masterpiece.
How would you describe being a virtual assistant to a child?
This is a tough one. You know how being a grownup means you have to work to make money? Some people want to work at one place for their entire lives. Other people want to do many different things and meet lots of people. A virtual assistant is like that. She can work and earn money from almost anywhere in the world for many different people who sometimes aren’t even in the same city.
Sohané, it is an absolute pleasure having you as part of our team. Your clients always have great things to say about your work. We are incredibly proud of you and notice your eagerness to serve! May we serve, together, for many more projects to come.
