We were finalists in the 702 Small Business Awards!
It all started when a dear client of ours, Leonie Ellis, nominated us for the award. Leonie has a niche placement firm that do staff placements in the legal industry (you can read more here) and uses 3 of AdminAssist’s assistants. The work they do for her varies from general admin, to communication services, to phone calls.
The competition, now in its 8th year, received about 1000 entries. We passed the first round of questioning and so became one of the 30 finalists. 702 presenter Xolani Gwala conducted a live interview with Lourita on 24 Aug (you can listen to it here) and this set our phones and mailboxes alight with queries from potential customers.
The week after that, we attended a judging session at the 702 studios in Sandton where a panel of 5 judges asked more detailed questions regarding the service we offer our clients. At the glitzy award ceremony soon after we were treated like celebrities. We’ve never felt so appreciated before! We were served a delicious dinner, ample drinks and enjoyed great entertainment. We were also inspired by the speeches from Steven Cohen, head of Sage One Accounting and by Tshepo Pakathi, serial entrepreneur and Group CEO of Pakathi Holdings.
At the end of the evening the winner was announced. They are a passionate group called The Munching Mongoose, who do weekly deliveries of organic and artisan fresh produce. If you read more about them here and keep in mind that the Small Business Awards competition is focused on customer service, you will agree it was an apt decision.
We received great exposure, many potential customers and new business from the competition, so we’ll do it again if we can. Our greatest take away however, was meeting the other small business owners who also know what it takes to build something great. Here’s to walking the road together and seeing them again at the awards in 2017!
